Friends Only
My journal is Friends Only as I would like to be the one to decide who reads it. I like to keep my friends list small, but I always love meeting kindred spirits. If you wish to be added, please leave a comment telling me how you came across my journal (it's only polite) and a little bit about yourself. Chances are I'll be only too happy to add back.

Many thanks to miss_laurey for my beautiful layout and mlledaae for the lovely moodtheme.

oh what a beautiful morning.!!
I LOVE shirley jones. I was in a production of "Oklahoma" at my high school last spring. I played Ado Annie. It was so much fun. It would be really awesome if you would add me. Then maybe sometime we can talk about the show and stuff. xoxo

Hey there, found you through your reply to me at the lesmis comm. I added you to my flist because you share two of my great loves - Carousel and Les Miserables. It's cool especially to meet another Carousel fan...there don't seem to be too many of us. :-(

Julia: Julia- Cosetteeleganceofmind on May 24th, 2006 04:30 pm (UTC)
Anyone who loves Carousel is a friend of mine :) We Carousel fans (Carouselians?) need to stick together. I've seen it twice- first time on the UK tour in May 2004 with Sam Kane and Jane Mark (Sam Kane was good, but Jane was incredible- she played Julie exactly how I would) and a production by final year students in December 2004, which by chance happened to feature Jeff Nicholson (who now plays Grantaire and u/s Javert in Les Mis) as Billy and I became his biggest fan instantaneously. Love that show. It affects me more and more each time. Chichester Theatre Festival is doing it as their musical this summer, so I may have to make a trip there to catch it...
juliejordan on May 24th, 2006 05:07 pm (UTC)
I have no idea where Chichester is, let alone how far it is from me (I'm in Folkestone) but I am SO tempted to see if I could possibly go without bankrupting myself. I'd kill to see Carousel on stage. When abouts in summer is it on? Hopefully it won't clash with my Madonna concert on August 1st.

I watched the movie last night. I still get really sad at Billy's death scene, even though I don't rate the flashback way of storytelling.
Julia: Waterhouse- Opheliaeleganceofmind on May 24th, 2006 05:48 pm (UTC)
Chichester Theatre Festival- Carousel ^_^ I'll drag my mum along if none of my friends will go with me because it's been a good year and a half since I last saw Carousel on stage and I'm beginning to suffer from withdrawal symptoms!

Ah yes, the movie. I still love it, but I can admit that it's deeply flawed. I blame Henry King. On the plus side, I think the movie soundtrack is the best recording out there. I LOVE Joanna Riding on the 1993 London Revival (she's a goddess), but I'm no fan of Michael Hayden's "singing."
juliejordan on May 24th, 2006 05:58 pm (UTC)
Seems that website wants to be awkward - I'm getting an Unknown Host (Error 500) thingy. I'll

I love the 1993 revival CD...it's the only recording of Carousel that I own and I'm really attached to it. I do like Gordon MacRae singing much more than Michael Hayden's, though. Hayden seemed weak in a lot of places but Gordon's voice was something else. And on the flip side, I think I like Joanna Riding's singing best out of all the Julie's I've heard.

Do you have the special edition DVD? Are the features good? I mainly bought it because my VHS tape is awful but the features sound interesting.
Julia: Wedding!!eleganceofmind on May 24th, 2006 06:09 pm (UTC)
Here's the main page- hope it will work!

Gordon MacRae has been my favourite singer since I was 12 and I love him to bits. Joanna Riding is amazing. I've seen her in a few things and she's been fantastic every time. Witches of Eastwick is a special favourite of mine.

My DVD is part of the Rodgers and Hammerstein boxed set, so I'm a bit annoyed it's been re-released with special features! I hope you enjoy them.
juliejordan on May 24th, 2006 06:14 pm (UTC)
Still not working. :-( Guess the site is having problems or something.

Do you have any idea of the dates? Or if there may be matinee showings? In WhatsOnStage they say 5th June - 1st September...it wouldn't run for that long, would it?
Julia: Cosetteeleganceofmind on May 24th, 2006 08:34 pm (UTC)
I think it actually is lasting that long, and yes, they are having matinée performances.

Lydia Griffiths (Julia Möller's predecessor) is playing Carrie and Norman Bowman (a former Marius) is playing Billy, so it seems like a promising cast. I always love new interpretations, but nothing irks me more than a completely misjudged interpretation of Julie. I'd actually love to see Julia Möller play that role. Opposite Jeff Nicholson's Billy.
juliejordan on May 25th, 2006 01:05 am (UTC)
Matinee's! Thank God! If I can avoid travelling around on trains at night I do. Urgh.

I've seen Lyndia Griffiths as Cosette. She wasn't memorable to me in the role, but I won't judge her Julie until I see it, since Julie is a very different role. I loved Jeff in Les Mis, though. I wish I could have caught him understudying Javert as those who have say he was amazing. I love his Grantaire, though.
I expect Julia and Jeff's Julie and Billy would be quite something, but I have hopes for the ones cast anyway.

We seem to have quite a few things in common (e.g. our love for Anna Netrebko). Mind if I add you?
Julia: Girl readingeleganceofmind on November 24th, 2006 02:56 pm (UTC)
I'll certainly add back. I see you're from Austria- I've never been there, but I've always wanted to, especially as my late grandfather was from Vienna.

Thanks for the add, Julia. I'm looking forward to reading your entries.

I have the theory that everybody simply has to fall in love with Vienna. In my eyes it's a beautiful and exciting city.

It must be a wonderful place to live- and I'm very envious to read about all your encounters with famous opera stars!

Friends? :)

I had looked up people that also love Audrey Hepburn and you came up. I looked up your interests and we have quite a few in common. :]

I was just clicking around randomly on LJ looking for something interesting to read. The Persuasion quotes drew me here, being an Austen fan. I suspect we might have a few crossing interests if you'd be interested in some reciprocal friending. My LJ is mainly burbly, though, I'm afraid and doesn't have much recommend it :)
